After almost 18 months, the San Francisco 49ers welcomed back fans at Levi’s stadium for a preseason match against the Kansas City Chiefs. It also marked the preseason debut of Trey Lance, the 49ers no. 5 overall draft pick in the 2021 NFL draft. With one 80-yard touchdown pass, the crowd went crazy.

«It was fun,» Lance said. «Obviously left a lot of big plays out there. I wish I would have taken advantage of the opportunities that were given a few times. … But it’s awesome to be out there playing again.”

49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looked good, completing 3/3 passes for 26 yards in limited play. Coach Mike Shanahan has not named a staring quarterback for the season opener, but it is believed Garoppolo will open the season as the starter.

The 49ers open the regular season Sunday September 12 against the Detroit Lions.
