49ers edge Raiders in thriller, win ninth straight game

Las Vegas, NV.- The San Francisco 49ers started the new year by defeating their old Bay Area rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, 37-34 in a back and forth thriller.
The Raiders started Jarrett Stidham at quarterback in place of Derek Carr, and he had a career day against the 49ers defense. Stidham passed for 365 yards and 3 touchdowns, but also had 2 INT. The final interception came in overtime when Tashon Gibson intercepted Stidham and returned it 56 yards to set up a game winning 23-yard field goal by 49ers kicker Robbie Gould.
For the 49ers, rookie quarterback Brock Purdy continues his impressive play, throwing for 284 yards and two touchdowns. Christian McCaffrey also had a stellar game, finishing the day with 121 yards rushing and adding 72 yards receiving and 1 touchdown. The 49ers currently hold the 2nd seed in the NFC playoff picture. They close out the season at home against the Arizona Cardinals Jan 8.
